Abstract
A piezo-electric device (see Group XL (b)) comprises a crystalline element according to the formula XD2YO3 where X denotes an ammonium -d4 radical or rubidium and Y denotes phosphorous or arsenic, which also contains a small amount of rubidium, if not already present, or thallium. The preferred material is ammonium -d4 deuterium phosphate (ND4D2PO4). Seed crystals may be prepared by reacting heavy ammonia and heavy water. The reactants being heated to 30 DEG C. and then allowed to cool to room temperature. In the growing of crystals from seed thallium may be added to the liquid ammonium -d4 deuterium phosphate in the form of thallium deuterium phosphate. The ammonium -d4 deuterium phosphate crystals are prismatic tetragonalscalenohedra. Specifications 14435/46, 35308/47, both open to inspection under Sect. 91, 641,469, 641,470 and 641,471, [all in Group XL (b)], are referred to.
