The rim of a boiling pan, the upper part 1 of which is made of thin stainless steel, is moved outwardly and downwardly so as to have a deep inverted U-shape in cross-section and a reinforcing ring 2 of stouter material, e.g. mild steel strip, is held in such U-shaped part without attachment to any other part. The rim is extended to include a flat flange 3 and a frustoconical part 4, which may be integral with or welded to the flange 3. The upper part 1 of the pan may be formed separately from and welded to the lower part 7. The flange 3 rests on a double-walled outer casing 9 in which the walls are spaced apart by rings 10, 11 and enclose air or other insulating material. The inner wall may be of aluminium or galvanised iron and the outer one of stainless steel. The pan is provided with a spout 5 preferably made of stainless. steel and welded to the rim. The pan has a heating jacket 8 and is supported on side pillars 15 by hollow trunnions through which steam or other heating fluid is supplied to the jacket as described in Specification 730,626. The lid of the pan comprises a central domed part 31 and a flat rim 32 to the lower and upper sides of which are secured arcuate reinforcing elements 33, 35. The lower element 33 carries two reinforcing arms 34, and the upper element 35, which may carry extensions 37 welded to the cover, is attached to the ends of counterweighted levers 36 pivoting in brackets at the top of one of the pillars 15. The lid may have an inner lining.
