Abstract
730,163. Filing papers. ZUMSTEIN, D., and BORNET, E. Oct. 13, 1953, No. 28105/53. Class 146(1). A suspension file for papers, fabric or like sheet material comprises a fixed jaw and a movable jaw engaging the fixed jaw with its lowermost portion to clamp the papers, the upper portion forming a V-shaped recess with the fixed jaw, an extractor having two swivelling blades being normally suspended over the V and capable of being lowered into the V, the movable jaw being rocked to close the V for extraction or addition of papers, the main body of the papers then being clamped between the movable jaw and one of the blades and between the fixed jaw and the other blade, leaving sufficient space between the blades for the paper or papers to be extracted or for adding papers. Papers 1 are clamped between a fixed jaw 2 and a jaw 5 with its lower portion 5<SP>1</SP> clamped against jaw 2 by a cable 6 running over a pulley 4, the cable 6 being weighted or, as shown, secured to the casing 16 with a heavy spring 22 intervening. The upper part 5<SP>11</SP> forms the V as shown in Figs. 2, 5 and is tilted as in Fig. 4 by a cord 9 secured to the outer end of a triangular wing 7 at each side of jaw 5 and extending beyond jaw 2, the lower part of each wing 7 having a roller 8 running on a rail 3 to support the jaw 5. The blades 10, 11 of the extractor 26 are supported against a counterweight 28 by a cord 27 including a cable 12 and loops 121 secured over shafts 13, 14 on the blades, the shaft 13 having rollers 15 which cooperate with recesses 16 in the blades 11. To extract a sheet x, the blades are manually separated as in Fig. 2 and lowered to embrace the sheet x, the sheets 1<SP>1</SP> and 1<SP>11</SP> either side thereof being separated and pushed against jaws 2 and 5 respectively. The blades are then lowered to lie in the V and the jaw 5 tilted, as in Fig. 4, by pulling on cord 9.by means of a treadle 24 with an intermediate spring 25. The operations may be automatically effected, the lowering of the extractor being in two phases if desired, to positions of Figs. 2 and 4 respectively followed by tilting of the jaw 5 and a treadle having two operative ends may be provided for the above operations and for their reversal. When a large number of sheets are held, arms may be provided on the jaw 5 to underlie the rollers 15 to support the extractor in its lowest position. In a motor operated extractor, the extractor cable is mounted on a shaft on which a pulley is mounted having a control cable connected to the motor, the cables being mounted to wind and unwind respectively, and the control cable passing over a pulley on a counterweight lighter than the extractor and then over a fixed pulley. The counterweight normally is pressed against rubber feet on a fixed part of the device but when movement of the extractor is arrested in its final position between the sheets, the counterweight is lowered to maintain the cables taut while the shaft is stationary so that it is not necessary to stop the motor at the precise moment when the extractor reaches the desired position.
