Abstract

729,292. Controlling vehicles. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd. Nov. 26, 1953 [Nov. 28, 1952], No. 32832/53. Classes 79(4) and 79(5). In a motor vehicle a transverse shaft carrying the accelerator pedal extends through an offset portion of a bulkhead and is connected on the side of the bulkhead opposite to that of the pedal to a linkage for controlling the vehicle acceleration. As shown the bulkhead 11 has longitudinally displaced portions 12, 14 interconnected by a portion 16. Bolted to the passenger side of the portion 12 is a bracket 17 having a flange 22 conforming to the portion 16. The flange 22 carries an integral boss 23 extending laterally of the vehicle and passing through the portion into the engine compartment. Rotatably mounted in the boss 23 is the shaft 29, the intermediate portion 28 of which is supported by a bracket 48 secured to the engine side of the bulkhead portion 14. A rearwardly extending cranked portion 33 of the shaft 29 is normally disposed parallel to the floor portion 13 and is connected by a link 34 to the accelerator pedal 36 pivoted at 38 to a bracket 37, an adjustable stop 39 being provided. An upwardly extending portion 41 of the shaft 29 is connected by a rod 42 to the control member of the carburetter 46, a coil spring 47 interconnecting the carburetter 46 and the portion 41 and urging the latter toward its idle position.
