Abstract
727,694. Gripper forks for lifting stacked articles. MIAG FAHRZEUGBAU GES. Nov. 24, 1952 [Nov. 23, 1951], No. 29584/52. Class 78(4). A fork for handling stacks of articles has hydraulic grippers 1 secured to the tines 2 and connected to a pressure generator 6, 7 through which the fork is supported and which is subjected to the weight of the fork and the load supported thereon. The generator comprises a cylinder 7 and a piston 6 urged apart by a spring 8 and secured respectively to the suspension means 10 and the fork by means of a pair of U-shaped members 9, 5 which co-operate with each other and guide the piston for axial movement in the cylinder. The member 5 is adapted to slide along the horizontal fork supporting arm 41, but is provided with grippers 52 which automatically lock the member to the arm as soon as the loaded fork is raised. A reservoir 16 is connected to the system through a valve 15 which is adapted to close when a predeter. mined pressure is generated in the system. In a modification (not shown), the reservoir and valve are incorporated in the interior of the piston 6. To limit the force exerted by the grippers 1 a spring-loaded thrustor 31, 32 is connected to the system and is arranged to close a valve 20, so isolating the grippers, when a predetermined pressure is reached. The push rod 35 of this thrustor is adjustable in length and an adjustable cylinder end 34 is provided to provide the desired stress in the spring 33.
