Abstract

726,438. Stethoscopes. CARSBERG & SON (LONDON), Ltd., H. G. Dec. 3, 1953 [Feb. 12, 1953], No. 3985/53. Class 81 (2). In a stethoscope the relatively movable tubes 10, 11 carrying the ear-pieces 12, 13 are each secured, as by brazing, to a cover plate, the two cover plates 14, 15 being pivotally connected together by means of a boss 16 integral with the plate 15 and a screw 17 which passes through the plate 14 and screws into the boss 16. To prevent the plate 14 binding on the screw 17, the boss 16 is formed with a collar 18 on which the plate 14 is freelv rotatable and which is slightly thicker than the plate. The boss 16 is surrounded by a helical spring 19 having at least three turns and formed at its ends with hook arms 20, 21 which engage the points at which the tubes 10, 11 are secured to the cover plates and so urge the ear-pieces towards each other. The tubes and cover plates are preferably made of brass.
