618,634. Locking rods; securing elements to shafts. DODDS, J. M., THOMAS, P. A. V., and METROPOLITAN - VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Nov. 6, 1946, No. 32984. [Classes 80 (ii) and 80 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXXIV and XL (c)] A locking device for the spindle 10 of, for example, a switch, potentiometer or variable condenser, comprises a pair of spring wire coils 1a, 1b encircling the spindle 10 in opposite directions and being anchored at their inner end or ends 2 to a fixed bracket 5. The coils normally grip the spindle to prevent rotation, but on movement of the two free ends 3 together the coils are opened to release the spindle. The device can also be used for adjustably securing knobs, drums, cams, &c. to their shafts.
