Abstract
726,432. Meter rectifiers. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES. Jan. 22, 1953 [Jan. 22, 1952], No. 1894/53. Class 37. A metal container housing an arrangement of metal rectifiers insulated from the case by heatconducting layers has a side or sides with a large surface area in relation to the superficial area of the case, which side is in good heatconducting contact over its whole area either directly or through a heat-conducting interlayer with a chassis or a carrier plate mounted thereon to dissipate heat rapidly thereto. The side in contact with the carrier is polished and of good heat conductivity, while the other surfaces are blackened to improve radiation. In one arrangement a single layer of cells connected in series by contact strips is held firmly in contact with one face by a spring bearing on the opposite wall while in another embodiment the container has more than one layer of cells with intermediate conducting walls 13, Fig. 5. The container may carry tabs through which it is bolted or riveted to the chassis or it may be directly bolted or riveted thereto or through an intermediate layer which may have greater area than the housing face and may be bent up to form radiating surfaces. The container may also be mounted on a cut-out portion of the chassis bent up to provide an air channel past the surface or may be mounted in an upright position with one or both faces in contact with L-shaped members secured to the chassis through their lower arms. It may also be directly clamped to the chassis by means of broad clips 57 cut to provide lugs 61 for engaging holes in the chassis and a large resilient area to bear against the chassis on either side, Fig. 20, 21. When the housing is substantially square in section it may be mounted, with its diagonal vertical, between a recessed part of the chassis and a bracket fixed to the chassis, Figs. 15, 16 (not shown). When it is cylindrical it may be mounted between a semi-cylindrical recess in the chassis and a semicylindrical member having flat extensions fixed to the chassis, Fig. 19 (not shown). On the other hand it may be mounted, Fig. 19, on a semi-cylindrical part of a metal bridge 54 with a U-shaped member 56 fitted over it and fixed to the bridge.
