A faucet comprises a housing 10 formed within its lower end with an upwardly facing conical shoulder, a tubular nipple 14 extending upwardly into the lower end of the housing and having a conically flared upper end portion in sealing contact with the shoulder, and a plug 13 threaded into the upper end of the housing to provide a chamber 38 between the housing and the plug, there being an outlet 40 from the chamber through the housing. The plug terminates in a conical taper that fits tightly inside the flared end of the nipple, and it is provided with an axial bore opening into the nipple and with ports 37 leading from the bore into the chamber. A valve 32 is situated at the lower end of the bore, and adjustable means at the upper end of the plug control the opening and closing of the valve. The valve consists of an inverted cup seating against the lower edge of a hardened metal ring 35 and opening against the flow when the valve stem 31 is depressed by a knob 60 which can be screwed. down over a threaded ring 25 screwed on to the upper end of the plug 13. Horizontal grooves in the valve stem prevent leakage past the stem. The flowing fluid, impinging on fins 63 in the cup 32 and flowing out through radial openings in the side of the cup, rotates the valve and keeps the bearing surfaces clean. The fins may be replaced by tangential slots in the side of the cup, or by a saw-tooth edge to the bottom thereof.
