Abstract

726,162. Dispensing liquids by gaseous pressure. ABPLANALP, R: H. Oct. 12, 1953 [Oct. 29, 1952], No. 27970/53. Class 102 (2). [Also in Group XXIX] A dispensing head for aerosol containers is provided with a tiltable actuator 11 for operating a valve controlling the delivery of foam from the container, the actuator being rectlinearly slidable in a direction transverse to its valve operating movement from an advanced operative position in which it can be tilted by manual pressure to cause it to operate a valve operating member to a retracted position in which it is incapable of operating the valve operating member. As shown, the head comprises a tubular portion 5 with a lateral spout 6 and an integrally formed collar 7 fitted over a flange of the container 3. A valve mechanism 1 such as that described in Specification 680,067, [Group XXIX], is fitted into the lower end of the tube 5 and carried by a cup 2. The usual upstanding hollow operating tube 4 of the valve mechanism is adapted to be depressed by a plunger 9 having parts projecting above and below a flexible diaphragm closing the top of the tube 5. The actuator 11 has a skirt 12 with an opening 13 at the front where it fits over the spout 6. The actuator 11 is retained on the spout by a transverse strip 14. The underside of the actuator has a central boss 15 capable of depressing the plunger 9 and opening the valve after the actuator has been pushed forward along the spout 6. During this forward movement a cam surface 17 on the boss 15 rides up over the plunger 9 causing the actuator to tilt upwardly as shown in Fig. 8. In the retracted position, Fig. 5, the plunger 9 cannot be depressed as the flat surface 16 of the boss 15 and lands 19, 20 on the actuator 11 engage the top of the tube 5. Forward movement of the actuator is limited by a stop 21 and a protuberance 23 may be provided under the spout past which the strip 14 is pressed in the forward movement. The parts of the head may be moulded from an organic plastic.
