Abstract
726,095. Apparatus for determining the erythrocyte sedimentation rate. FREUDENHAMMER, K. March 9, 1953, No. 6466/53. Class 81 (2). A device for determining the erythrocyte sedimentation rate comprises a rack with a platform to receive blood specimen containers, a retaining device for holding sedimentation tubes over the containers, the platform and the retaining device being movable in relation to one another so that the sedimentation tubes can be lowered to the same depth in the various blood specimens, and a device with several connections for the individual sedimentation tubes so. that the pressure can be reduced in all the sedimentation tubes simultaneously. The apparatus comprises a rack 1 having a platform 2 carrying rubber containers 5 for test-tubes 3 each containing a blood specimen and a retaining device 7 having rubber clips 8 for holding graduated sedimentation tubes 9. The retaining device 7 may be raised or lowered on threaded spindles by turning a handle 15 so that the sedimentation tubes 9 dip into the blood specimens by the same amount. Each sedimentation tube 9 is connected with a tube 16 mounted on the rack 1, by a rubber tube 18. A reduction of pressure within the tube 16 and the sedimentation tubes 9 is produced by a syringe 19 until the blood in each sedimentation tube 9 reaches a graduation mark. The tubes 9 are then raised out of the test-tubes 3 and the platform 2 is slid horizontally so that the tubes 9 on lowering again may rest on a rubber strip 6 embedded in the platform 2.
