Abstract

725,728. Side-delivery rakes. VAN DER LELY N. V., C. April 8, 1953 [April 11, 1952], No. 9510/53. Class 6 (3). A side - deliverv rake, of the type having a series of oblique parallel rake-wheels 9, is chacterised in that the main frame 6 is invertible about a longitudinal axis so that the rake may deliver either to the left or right of its line of travel. The rake is pushed by a tractor 1 having a transverse tubular support 2 across its front end, the frame 6 being carried by a castor-wheel 15 and brackets 4, 5 secured to the tube 2 and to the ends of the frame 6 and of a strut 19 respectively. A cross-bar 20 connects the strut 19 with the frame 6. The tractor may support a mower-bar 12 on one side to cut an adjacent swath 14 and tow an offset pick-up loader on its other side to collect the raked swath 11. The width of the swath raked is adjustable either by the addition or removal of rakewheel, Fig. 3 (not shown), or by the alteration of the inclination of the frame 6 to the line of travel. This may be effected by mounting the frame 6 and strut 19 on sector-shaped brackets 30, 31 having spaced alternative holes 32, the brackets being also adjustable along the tube 2. The mounting means 4, 5 lies in the same horizontal plane 35 as the pivotal axes of the cranks 8 carrying the rake-wheels, and the tube 36 carrying the castor-wheel stem 38 is symmetrical about this plane, so that bodily inversion of the rake does not disturb the working levels. The cranks 8 are all attached by springs 41 to lugs 42 on a shaft 43 which is movable by a lever 16 and cable 46 to raise all the rake-wheels in unison or to vary their pressure on the crop. On inversion, the castorwheel stem 38 is inserted into the opposite end of the tube 36 and the springs 41 are attached to lugs 42a so as to occupy the positions 41a.
