Abstract
725,723. Centrifugal separators. BUREAU VAN TONGEREN N.V. March 27, 1953, No. 8548/53. Class 23. Particles suspended in a fluid carrier are classified in a separator comprising a separating chamber formed by cylindrical and funnelshaped parts 4, 6, an inlet 9 opening tangentially into the cylindrical part, a passage 8 leading from the funnelshaped part for the discharge of coarser particles, an outlet 5 for discharge of fluid and finer particles, and means associated with the inlet causing the fluid and particles to enter the chamber in two layers, an inner layer containing all or most of the particles and an outer layer containing no or few of the particles. The inlet has a bend 9a which stratifies the dust carrying air so that layers having high and low dust contents flow respectively on the inside and outside of a guide vane 10. The air from the outer layer entrains finer dust as it passes through the heavily dust-laden layer on its way to the outlet 5. The coarser dust is discharged from the passage 8 by means of a flap valve 8a. A flap valve 15 may be opened to admit air to the separating chamber. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown), air enters axially a straight inlet which is inclined to the horizontal, the dust being supplied from a hopper opening through the upper wall of the inlet and a baffle parallel with the walls of the inlet confining the dust to the upper part of the inlet.
