Abstract
725,712. Filtering gases. MINE SAFETY APPLIANCES CO. March 20, 1953, No. 7749/53. Class 8 (2). Gas filtering apparatus comprises an opentopped box 2, Fig. 1, having a dust-laden gas inlet 6 and a cover 3, Fig. 2, having a clean gas outlet 7, horizontal inwardly extending flanges 13 at the opposite sides of the top of the box supported by brackets 14, vertical slots 17 in said flanges 13 and brackets 14 for receiving the upper ends of a plurality of pockets formed by folding a sheet 10 of filter fabric and securing adjacent sides of each fold e.g. by stitching, horizontal rods 16 secured to and connecting said opposite side flanges 13 for supporting the areas of fabric between each pocket and horizontal inwardly extending flanges 12 secured by brackets 13 to the other opposite sides of the top of the box 2 for receiving the free ends of the fabric adjacent each of the end pockets. The sides 18 of the pockets are held against collapse under suction by folding open mesh wire netting to form pocket-like members 22 the sides of which abut the interior of the sides 18, and the free ends 23, 24 of the netting are overlapped horizontally and are secured together. Pins 25 projecting down from the interior of the cover 3 prevent lateral displacement of the netting.
