Abstract
A paste for the production of foils or coatings comprises a vinyl chloride polymer or a copolymer thereof with a copolymerizable monomer such as vinyl acetate, methyl acrylate or vinylidene chloride, one or more plasticizers and an aqueous emulsion of paraffin wax, the amount of paraffin wax being from 1 to 10 per cent by weight of the amount of paste. Plasticizers and plasticizer mixtures specified are (a) dioctyl phthalate and diethylhexyl adipate in the ratio 1 : 1, (b) dibutyl phthalate, tricresyl phosphate and the esters of aliphatic C6-C7 fatty acids and triglycol in the ratio of 1 : 1 : 1 and (c) dioctyl phthalate. The paraffin wax emulsions are preferably of 20 to 60 per cent strength and may contain small amounts of high molecular weight alcohols, oils, other waxes, resins and colloidal aluminium hydroxide.
