Burner apparatus for reheating the tumbler supporting foot in the manufacture of stemmed glass tumblers comprises a burner 15, Fig. 1, for directing flames on to the interior surface of a rotating foot F, and a burner 16 having a multiplicity of ports 72, Figs. 7 and 10, for directing on to the exterior surface of the foot F, flames spaced at a predetermined distance on either side of the stem so as not to play on the latter. The ports 72 are arranged in two rows in the concave rectangular underface of the burner head 63. To prevent overheating of the base of the stem air is projected thereagainst through apertures 77, Fig. 8, in the burner head 63, the air being supplied through a pipe 44 and regulated by a valve member 78 adjusted by a screw 79. The head 63 has passages therein for a cooling fluid, e.g. water, supplied by a pipe 41 and withdrawn through a pipe 42, which leads to a cooling jacket surround-. ing a part of the fuel-air mixture tube 21 and from which the cooling fluid passes through a pipe 43. The head 47 of the burner 15 is also cooled by fluid supplied through a pipe 38 to a channel within a nut 48 which holds the head 47 in position, the fluid being withdrawn through a pipe 37. The burner 15 is supported by brackets 24 (not shown) and 26 slidable on bars in a frame 23, and held in position by a locking screw 28 (not shown). Minor vertical adjustments of the burner head 47 may be made by adjusting in a vertical slot 59 a bolt 58 which secures the burner head to the bracket 26. The burner 16 is supported by a bracket 30 slidable on rods 31 and held in position by a locking screw 32, the burner being adjustable vertically with respect to the bracket 30 by rotating a screw 34.
