Abstract

725.281. Fluid bearings. ROULEMENTS A BILLES MINIATURES SOC. ANON. Jan. 9, 1953 [Jan. 10, 1952; April 15, 1952], No. 754/53. Class 12 (1). A fluid bearing has fluid admitting nozzles of non- circular cross-section which counteract gyrating or turning movement of the fluid. In Figs. 1 and 2 the body 1 is formed with grooves 5 which are closed at the ends by rings 6 and supplied with pressure fluid through an annular groove 2, conical recesses E, restrictions 8, and grooves 9. The restrictions 8 cause a drop in pressure of the fluid and are square or triangular in cross-section. In a modification cylindrical bores replace the conical recesses 7, and are provided with flow restricting apertures of non- circular cross-section and gyrating preventing elements. A thrust bearing arrangement, Figs. 6, 7, supporting a hemispherical head, has grooves 19 serving as pressure chambers into which compressed fluid is led from the compartment 20 by way of triangular or square nozzles 21 and recesses 22. In a modification of this arrangement the recesses 22 are replaced by cylindrical bores containing elements as already described. In yet another embodiment, Fig. 10, the pressure. chambers 26 are supplied through triangular &c. holes 28. The chambers 26 may however be replaced by cylindrical bores provided with elements. In a thrust bearing similar to the embodiment of Fig. 10, the hemispherical head is provided with three pressure chambers each bounded by the hemispherical bearing surface and a flat on the head, these chambers being fed through a plug in the head provided with three triangular grooves or nozzles.
