Abstract

725,280. Kettles. KING, R. W. Jan. 9, 1953, No. 738/53. Class 66. The handle 1 of a kettle is placed towards the rear of the filling opening 2, and diametrically opposite the pouring spout 4, and is provided with a finger actuated lever mechanism for opening the lid 5. As shown the mechanism comprises a rod 7 provided with a finger knob 13 sliding in a tube 14 supporting, or forming the front portion of, the handle 1 and having a lower end 7a curved forwardly and upwardly and pivotedly connected by a link 9 with a lever arm 10 attached to the lid 5. Depression of the knob 13 causes the lid 5 to pivot open about its hinge 6 against the spring 12 which normally urges the lid into its closed position. The spring 12 may be concealed within the handle being located between the button 13 and a spring seating interior of the handle.
