Abstract

724,809. Transformers. SCHOTZ, S. P. June 4, 1953 [March 3, 1953], No. 5876/53. Class 38 (2). An electric transformer system comprises a tank or casing with or without a conservator, the system being made air-tight and only partly filled with oil and having the atmosphere in the system above the surface of the oil reduced to a ,pressure considerably below atmospheric pressure. The reduced pressure atmosphere may have the oxygen removed therefrom by chemical reaction, absorption or like means. Alternatively the reduced pressure atmosphere may comprise an inert gas or vapour which may be introduced into the system below the level of the oil therein. The gases or vapours may be dried before being introduced into the system or they may be continuously removed from, and replaced in, the system during which operation they may be cooled or freed from contaminating substances. A slight entry of gas or vapour into the system may be maintained to counteract any leakage therefrom.
