Abstract

724,611. Mounting bodies on railway vehicles. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. June 10, 1953 [July 16, 1952], No. 16017/53. Class 103 (6). A railway vehicle body 6 is supported on a truck 1 by one or more lengths of flexible cable 19 connected at one end to the truck frame and at the other end to the vehicle body, the connection to the truck frame being located above the connection to the vehicle body so that the cable serves as a hanger, permitting limited pivotal and transverse motion of the truck with respect to the vehicle body. As shown, projections 7, 8 extending downwardly from the body 6 are connected by a gib member 10 with its end portions fitting in slots 12 in plate members secured to the projections. The gib is connected to the lower ends of flexible cables 19 which at their upper ends are connected to a hook 17 secured to a bolster 16 connecting the side frames 2 of the truck 1. The gib and hook 17 are provided with tapered sockets to receive tapered plugs 20, to which the ends of the cables are attached. Slots 21 wide enough to pass the cables are provided to enable the cables to be detached from the hook 17. The cables 19 are inclined downwardly away from the truck 1, to dampen transverse swinging of the body 6 with respect to the truck.
