Abstract
724,282. Valve generating circuits, pulse radar. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. April 2, 1953 [July 24, 1952], No. 18810/52. Classes 40 (6) and 40 (7). In an arrangement for producing oscillations the phase of which is controlled by periodic pulses of oscillation the pulses cause a first oscillator to be switched off and a second oscillator to be started in the correct phase, the first oscillator then being restarted in the correct phase by the second oscillator which is thereafter switched off. In the so-called radar " coherent " oscillator circuit shown, the occurrence of an R.F. synchronizing pulse at the grid of valve V1 causes the second valve V2R of a " flip-flop " circuit to be cut off. The pulse at the anode of V2R renders valve V3 of a cathode feedback oscillator circuit conductive and the.pulse at the cathode starts oscillation in the resonant circuit of the oscillator in the correct phase. The fall of the anode voltage of the oscillator valve V3 renders inoperative the valve V4 of a more stable oscillator, comprising valve V4 and circuit T.C. so that the existing oscillations in the circuit die out. At the same time the oscillatory output from the anode of valve V3 is fed to the left-hand end of the circuit T.C. to cause oscillation in the correct phase to commence. After a brief period the " flip-flop " returns to its original condition and so switches off V3 which thus switches on V4 causing oscillations to be sustained in the circuit T.C. An output is taken from a capacitive tap on this circuit to an amplifier valve V5.
