Abstract

722,579. Clothes drying apparatus. HOOVER, Ltd. Nov. 5, 1953. [Nov. 24, 1952] No. 29630/53. Class 34 (2). [Also in Group II] A clothes drying machine has a rectangular casing 10 mounted on legs 11 and containing an outer centrifuging basket 14 mounted on a shaft 15 in a bearing 13, and an inner basket 18 having a non-circular hole 19 to engage with a spigot 20 on a shaft 15 so as to rotate with the outer basket but be removable therefrom. The bottom of the casing has a drain 21 and within the hinged lid 12 a fan 23 is carried on a bearing 22 and forms the lid of the basket 14, having a flange 25 to fit the basket so as to rotate with it when the lid 12 is closed. The lid 12 also has air inlet openings 27 and an electric heating element 26. The clothes are held by clips on wire rings 29, 32 and when the lid 12 is closed the motor 17 driving the baskets and the heater 26 are switched on. Loose drops of water are flung off by centrifugal action and drying is completed by air entering at openings 27 and heated by passage over heater 26 passing over the clothes and out of openings 28 in the casing 10.
