Abstract

Salts of symmetrical triaminobenzene compounds are obtained by treating a symmetrical trinitrobenzene compound with a defined excess of the stoichiometric amounts necessary for reduction, of iron particles and a strong mineral acid, which is non-oxidizing, the iron being converted wholly to ferrous salts. The "free acid" must be maintained about 3 gms. or more per 100 c.c. The amine salts are salted out by means of the ferrous salts. Examples are given of the preparations of symmetrical triaminobenzene hydrochlorides, sulphate and base, triaminotoluene hydrochlorides and base, and triaminophenol hydrochloride, by reduction of the corresponding trinitro compounds and in some cases the carboxylic acids thereof, using the considerable excess of acid and iron defined.
