Abstract

721,966. Tents. POTTER, J. L. May 7. 1953 [April 25, 1952Class 20 (1), A tent, e.g. a cover for a ship's hatch, has its walls made up of triangular sections joined at their contiguous edges, each section comprising strips of fabric 4, e.g. nylon, secured together so that the strips 4 form a fish-bone pattern at one contiguous edge 5, and are perpendicular to another contiguous edge, whereby the strain is better distributed. Each wall of the cover, which may be pyramidal, is in two triangular sections each comprising a plurality of strips 4 sewn together in parallel, the two sections being sewn together along the centre line 5 of the cover wall. The lower edges of the side walls are secured to a depending fabric skirt 8, and the upper edges of contiguous walls are seamed together, a ridge band 3 enclosing a steel rope or wire 1 being secured over the seam. The ropes 1 terminate at the top in a loop 2, whereby the cover may be suspended, e.g. from a derrick, and at the bottom in hooks 10 whereby the cover may be tensioned. Wire or rope 7 extends round the bottom of the cover, which has eyeletted tabs 11 to tension the skirt 8 when the cover is over the rim of a hatch. The cover may be truncated, the top being strengthened by bars which may be connected by chains to the loop 2, the gap being protected by a fabric cover. The apex of the pyramid may be flat, i.e. the cover is a flat sheet.
