Abstract

721,530. Glider-boats. SAUNDERS-ROE, Ltd. March 5, 1952, [March 8, 1951], No. 5628/51. Class 4. A glider, Fig. 1, has for its body a boat 10 furnished with a motor driven propeller 15, and is provided with detachable wings 18 and tail boom 19, and has a towing loop 100 at the nose. The tail boom is attached as shown in Fig. 5, by upper and lower fittings 22 and 24 engaging pins 23 and 25 respectively. The hooks 26 which normally lock the pins, may be racked by movement of toggles 28, which is effected by pushing the rod 35. A similar arrangement is used to detachably secure the wings to the body, torque tubes connecting the mechanisms so that one rod serves to control the release of all the pins. The control pin connections for the control surfaces of the wings and tail end in forked links which readily pull away. Another means of detaching the wings and tail is by explosives. In the Provisional Specification the boat may form part of an autogiro.
