Abstract
720,722. Vapour burners. ALADDIN INDUSTRIES, Inc. Feb. 17, 1953 [March 11. 1952]. No. 4462/53. Class 75 (1). For ensuring a steady flow of liquid fuel from the tank to the vaporizer of a vapour burning pressure stove, a wick 22, Fig. 1, comprising a small number of glass fibre strands extends through a tube 20 from a narrow intake orifice 23 in the latter through which fuel passes from a tank 10 maintained under superatmospheric pressure, the fuel flowing through the tube 20 to a vaporizing chamber 22 in a valve housing 21. The latter contains a tapered valve member 28 operated by a rotary knob 29 to adjust the flow of vapour from the vaporizing chamber 24 to either or both of two burner outlet orifices 46, Fig. 3. A needle 47 mounted on a slide 44 is moved back and forth to clean the orifices 46 when the knob 29 is rotated, the slide 44 being actuated by a crank 42 at the end of the valve member 28. To start the burner a valve 26 is opened and the resilient lower convex wall 12 of the tank 10 is repeatedly pressed and released to discharge a quantity of fuel past the valve 26 into a bowl 54 where it is ignited to preheat the valve housing 21. Air in a tube 18 (which supports the borner on the tank 10 and surrounds the tube 20), is then heated to increase the vapour and air pressure in the tank 10 so that liquid fuel is forced through the aperture 23 to rise through the tube 20 partly by capillary action through the wick 22. If the valve 28 is fully open vaporized fuel is discharged through both apertures 46 and mixes in a surrounding chamber 45 with air entering through an annular slot 49. The combustible mixture is discharged through apertures provided under a pair of tongues 51 stamped out of the bowl shaped upper wall 48 of the chamber 45 and forms an annular flame around said wall.
