Abstract

720,532. Cathode-ray tubes. COMPAGNIE POUR LA FABRICATION DES COMPTEURS ET MATERIEL D'USINES A GAZ. June 2, 1950 [June 2, 1949], No. 13836/50. Drawings to Specification. Class 39 (1) [Also in Group XL(b)] The light-modulating screen of a cathode-ray tube has a layer of a substance, the refractive index or light absorption of which is modulated by radiation, the layer having a semi-transparent coating on both sides. A layer of potassium chloride, for example, is coated on both sides with aluminium to form a screen which is scanned by a modulated electron beam to reflect light on to the image screen. In another method, the light is projected through the screen, the amount absorbed depending upon the intensity of the electron beam. X-rays, gamma rays or ultraviolet rays can form the scanning radiation.
