Abstract

720,401. Embossing. MASSON SEELEY & CO., Ltd. Jan. 21, 1953 [Jan. 21, 1952], No. 1678/52. Class 100 (2). Work-holders.-A work-holder for use in conjunction with a press for carrying out marking operations comprises a plurality of movable platforms and there is provision for moving the platforms selectively into the position beneath the work held by the workholder where marking pressure is applied. In the form of Fig. 1, the work-holder comprises a block 1 in the upper face of which is formed an L-shaped slot, platforms 5a, 5b being slidably received in the two parts 3a, 3b of the slot, each urged by a spring towards the corner position where the marking pressure is applied. When one platform is withdrawn from the corner position by its control rod 8a or 8b, the other platform automatically takes its place. The corners 11a, 11b are chamfered to allow the platforms to pass each other easily. One of the platforms has a plane surface for transferring colour and the other has a part raised for embossing. Locating means for the work may be provided on the upper face of the block 1. In a modification the block 1 has a single straight slot and platforms, one-third the length of the slot, are movable alternatively to the central position where they are retained by a ball-catch. The two platforms may be con. stituted by surfaces of a single movable member displaceable to bring one or the other surface into the marking position. In the form of Fig. 3 the platforms 27, 28 are mounted on a rotary member 26 rotatable between side plates 24, 25 on a spindle 29 controllable by a knob 30. A ball catch 31 holds the rotor in either position. Specification 716,884 is referred to.
