Abstract
Solvent used for extracting soybean oil from soybean flakes in an extractor 10 is recovered from the flakes by withdrawing them from the extractor through line 11 and then passing them through steam jacketed agitator-equipped tubes 12 and then through deodorizing tube 13 where the solvent vapours are withdrawn and the flakes substantially free of solvent pass into a mixer 14 for further treatment. In another form of apparatus the solvent-saturated flakes are withdrawn through line 20 and introduced into a jacketed compartment cooker 21 having several compartments through which the flakes are fed and into the other compartments direct steam through line 25 in large amounts to vaporize the solvent and remove it is introduced. (For Figure see next column) <PICT:0720184/III/1>ALSO:Soybean meal, in which the thiamin is undestroyed, is prepared by heating solvent-extracted soybean meal flakes below 212 DEG F., introducing steam to condense thereon to bring the total moisture content into the range of 14 to 30 per cent., preferably 15-20 per cent., and heating at a temperature above 212 DEG F.
