719,079. Turbine and compressor blades. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. Aug. 14, 1952 [Aug. 31, 1951], No. 20648/51. Class 110(3) A vibration-damped blade for use in a compressor or turbine is formed in the manner of a laminated spring and comprises at least two laminae into which the blade is divided along its length from tip to root the laminae being initially lowered. The laminae are secured together at the root end so that the laminae are elastically deflected to bring the surface of each into sliding contact with an adjacent surface, the contact surface extending substantially chordwise of the blade. The blade shown is divided into two parts 1, 2 each with a part 1a, 2a of the root portion, the two parts 1a, 2a being connected by rivets. The frictional engagement of the surfaces may be increased by roughening or coating, or a thin layer of friction material may be inserted between the surfaces. Alternatively or additionally, a thin layer of rubber material may be bonded to' at least one of the laminae. The bonded layer may serve in addition or alternatively to the rivets to hold the laminae temporarily together.
