Class 86 [Also in Group XXXI] A concrete mixer comprises a mixing bowl rotatably mounted about its longitudinal axis on a wheeled barrow-type chassis with power means for driving both the mixing bowl and the chassis wheel or wheels. In Fig. 1 a barrow type chassis 3 has handles 11, 12, and an axle 13 carries pneumatic-tyred wheels 14, 15, which may be adjusted in position on the axle so that when the mixer is being transported the track can be widened, while when the mixer is in use, the track can be narrowed. A fixed shaft 32, secured to the chassis at 33, extends at an upwardly inclined angle and passes through a gear box 28 supported by the frame. The mixing bowl 35, Fig. 2, is carried by a tubular housing 36, which is rotatably supported on the fixed shaft 32 by bearings 42, 43. A worm wheel 46, mounted on the lower end of the housing 36, within the gear box 28, is engaged by a worm 31 carried by the crank shaft 30 of the driving means which comprises a prime mover 27. The bearings 42, 43 are lubricated by oil which flows from the gear box 28 when the mixer is tilted downwardly about its wheels 14, 15 for unloading. A lay shaft 17 carrying fluted rollers 20, 21 is mounted within a housing 16 and is driven through a sprocket ad chain 24, 29 from a sprocket (not shown) on the shaft 30. The housing 16 is carried at its ends by pivoted arms 18, 19, the arm 18 being connected to a hand lever 23 whereby the rollers can be moved in to or out of driving engagement with the tyres 14 and 15.
