718,793. Engine distributing valves. HUGHES, Ltd., G. H. Jan. 6, 1953, No. 351/53. Class 122(2) In an engine distributing valve in which the valve body is formed in three sections comprising a valve chamber section 1 provided with an air inlet port 10 and having an operating rod 16 slidable therein engaging a slide 11 co-operating with ports 3, 4, 5, 6 in an intermediate section 2, two of which ports 3, 4 register with passages 7, 8 in a third section 9 connected to the engine cylinder, the operating rod 16 is actuated by pneumatic means. Housings secured to each end of the valve chamber 1 contain diaphragms 24 which when flexed inwardly by the admission of pneumatic pressure through inlets 22 actuate the operating rod 16, a centrally placed button 25 on the diaphragm contacting the end of the rod. The inlets 22 are alternately opened to pressure and exhaust, the sides of the housings remote from the inlets 22 being vented to atmosphere through passages 26. Specification 664,903 is referred to.
