Abstract

718,433. Directing vehicle headlights. NEUSCHWANDER, J. Sept. 5, 1952, [Sept. 5, 1951.] No. 20998/51. Classes 75 (2) and 75 (3). Apparatus for swivelling vehicle headlamp beams automatically with movement of the steering mechanism includes hydraulic transmission means connecting the steering mechanism to the swivelling mechanism and comprising two transmitting cylinders 23 having pistons with operating rods 26 extending away from one another and connected to the track rod 31, two receiving cylinders 19 having pistons with operating rods 17 extending towards one another and connected to a movable arm 16 of the swivelling mechanism and two hydraulic conduits 32, each connecting one transmitting cylinder with one receiving cylinder. The operating rods 26 have rounded ends abutting flat surfaces on arms 30 fixed at right angles to the track rod 31 and the operating rods 17 have rounded ends abutting flat opposite sides of the movable arm 16. The movable arm is secured to a pivot pin 12 to which a bracket carrying the headlamp or a reflector within the headlamp is also secured. The diameters of the receiving and transmitting cylinders are selected to give a suitable swivelling movement for any given movement of the track rod. The conduits 32 are flexible.
