Class 98(2) [Also in Group X] A gelatin-bichromate layer is exposed under a negative or diapositive. soaked in water to swell it, and used, with the aid of an intermediate casting as of gypsum when exposure was under a negative, as a mould to produce a ceramic article as of unbaked clay with recesses corresponding, to the gradations of the original, and the ceramic article is coloured by application of a dilute suspension of colouring substance which is retained in quantities corresponding to the various depths of the recesses and thus to the original. A surface active agent, protective colloid or viscosityincreasing substance may be included in the suspension. The colouring substance may be cobalt, chromium, maganese or ferric oxide and after settling thereof the supernatant liquid may be poured off, a glaze powder may be applied and the article burnt. The possibility of application of suspensions of different coloured substances on different parts of the recess reproduction for production of pictures in different colours is referred to.
