Abstract

Desoxycholic acid is separated from contaminating cholic acid by dissolving in a mixture of methyl ethyl ketone and water, with subsequent adjustment, if necessary, of the concentration of the solvent components by evaporation or by the further addition of methyl ethyl ketone or water, so as to form a supernatant phase rich in methyl ethyl ketone which retains in solution substantially all the cholic acid and a subnatant water-rich phase from which the desoxycholic acid crystallizes.ALSO:Desoxycholic acid is separated from a mixture with cholic acid by dissolving in a mixture of methyl ethyl ketone and water, adjusting, if necessary, the concentration of the solvent components by evaporation or by the further addition of methyl ethyl ketone or water, so as to form a supernatant phase rich in methyl ethyl ketone which retains in solution substantially all the cholic acid and a subnatant water-rich phase from which the desoxycholic acid crystallizes.
