Abstract
716,268. Television. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. July 14, 1953 [July 29, 1952], No. 19088/52. Class 40 (3) A television camera 1 is provided with an electronic image-converter 6, the scene to be viewed being projected through the lens turret 5 on to the photo-cathode 7 and the resulting image on the luminescent 8 being projected on to the sensitive surface 3 of the camera pick-up tube 2 and also being arranged to constitute the image for the camera view-finder 10. As shown, a halfsilvered mirror 9 is disposed between screen 8 and the view-finder and co-operates with a further mirror 12 to project the image on to surface 3. Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) illustrate two other ways in which the image-converter, camera tube and view-finder may be disposed within the camera case. An iris diaphragm may be provided between the image-converter and surface 3. The image-converter may project an enlarged image in the view-finder and may also provide a marginal field of view. Suitable deflecting fields may be employed to shift the electronic image in the converter to permit the effective field of view of the camera to be changed without interfering with the camera scanning. The converter may be pulsed to enable transient or rapidly changing phenomena to be observed whilst still operating the camera tube under normal storage conditions. It is stated that the colour response of the sensitive surface of the camera tube and the screen of the image-converter may be matched to improve the signal-to-noise ratio.
