Abstract
<PICT:0716216/IV (a)/1> <PICT:0716216/IV (a)/2> In a process for the continuous melt spinning of o -amino-carboxylic acids and their derivatives, for the purpose of removing monomeric material, the melt is allowed to flow by gravity in thin layers over the inner surface of a closed vessel and inner and outer surfaces of a number of co-axial cylinders arranged within the vessel in such a manner that substantially the whole of these surfaces is covered by the melt, and an inert gas is passed through the vessel, the melt being thereafter conducted to the spinning nozzles. As shown, two coaxial cylinders 5 are arranged within a closed vessel 9. The melt is admitted from a pipe 1 to an annular chamber 2 which is connected by a large number of passages 3 to annular nozzles 7 formed between the walls of the cylinders 5 and an intermediate member 6. The melt flows in a film over the surfaces of the cylinders 5 and inner surface of the vessel 9 at the bottom of which it collects and is withdrawn through a pipe 11 and conducted to the spinning nozzles. An inert gas is admitted under a slight super-atmospheric pressure through a pipe 12 and is conducted away with the evaporated monomer through a pipe 10. The oxygen content of the inert gas is less than 0.003 per cent. and the temperature may be 245 DEG C. U.S.A. Specification 2,241,321 is referred to.
