Abstract
A plasticized composition comprises a vinyl chloride polymer and as plasticizer a diester of 1 : 12-dodecanedioic acid with a saturated alcohol containing 4 to 9 carbon atoms. The vinyl p chloride polymer may be polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer of vinyl chloride with vinylidene chloride, vinyl acetate, acrylonitrile, styrene, methyl, ethyl or propyl acrylate, methacrylate, or alpha-chloracrylate, or methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl or amyl maleate or fumarate or itaconate. The saturated alcohol may be butyl, amyl, hexyl, heptyl, octyl, 2-ethyl hexyl, 2 : 4 : 4-trimethyl, pentyl, nonyl, cyclohexanol, or methyl, ethyl, or propyl substituted cyclohexanol, or the cyclohexyl derivatives of methyl, ethyl and propyl alcohols. Specified plasticizers are di-(n-butyl)-, di-(isoamyl)-, di-cyclohexyl-, di-(1 : 5-dimethyl-3-pentyl)-, di-(2-ethylhexyl)-, and di-(2 : 2 : 4 : 4-tetramethyl - 1 - pentyl) - 1 : 12 - dodecanedioates. The compositions may also contain heat and light stabilizers, pigments, e.g. white lead, fillers, diluents, solvents and lubricants.
