Class 57 [Also in Groups XXIX and XXXVII] A speed governor comprises a housing a, a hollow cylindrical rotary body b contained in the housing. a rotary and axially movable member f provided with a helical fin or fins g, a centrifugally operable mass or masses d connected to the body and the member, and a valve, electric switch or other control means operable by the member, the arrangement being such that the interaction of the finned member and a liquid contained in the rotary body ante cedes the action of the centrifugal mass or masses on the control means. Each mass d is carried by a pair of spring, or spring-loaded, arrows e. In the preferred embodiment, the member f is attached to a sleeve h slidable on a ported valve stem i which may be axially adjusted by a manually-operable cam j. The sleeve prevents flow of liquid from a servo mechanism (see Group XXIX) until a predetermined speed corresponding to the setting of the stem i is exceeded when the sleeve moves upwardly to permit liquid from the servo mechanism to flow through the stem i, holes in the body g, and an outlet u. The servo-mechanism may control a fuel pump. throttle or by-pass.
