Abstract
713,950. Road laying machines. HEISE, C., [trading as ALFELDER EISENWERKE, C. HEISE, VORM. O. WESSELMANN & CIE.]. May 2, 1951 [May 2, 1950; July 29, 1950; Aug. 24, 1950; Jan. 8, 1951], No. 10354/51. Class 107. [Also in Group XXX] A road laying machine for distributing, levelling and consolidating road-building materials comprises two main components hinged to one another, the first serving to receive the road materials and discharge them on to the ground, and the second having means for distributing the materials on the ground, and a scraper board, for levelling and consolidating the materials, arranged for limited oscillatory movement about a substantially horizontal axis near its rear edge. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the second component II is supported by arms 3 or pivots on component I, the arms 3 being raised and lowered by a spind'e 4. The component I has a conveyer band 2 for throwing material from a hopper 1 on to the road, and above the band are two slides 6, 7, Fig. 2, which are coarsely adjusted mechanically and finely adjusted by hydraulic means 8. The slides 6, 7 co-operate with a hydraulically controlled divided distributor worm 9 behind which is a scraper board 11 formed by two centrally hinged vanes which can be raised and lowered by levers 15 and eccentrics 16. The board 11 is heated by an oil burner, its rear part is pivoted to the frame at 14, and its front part is connected by rods 12 to an eccentric shaft 13 to give it a transverse vibratory movement, or it may carry a freely oscillating vibrator. To prevent damming and consolidating of material, the front of the board 11 may be provided with a reciprocating comb or rake, or a roller consisting of loose and fixed rings. Fig. 9 shows a two-part rake 25 the prongs 26 of which are inclined towards the board 11, the two parts a, b being hinged at 29, 30 to levers 27, 28 which are pivoted at 31, 32 and which are connected by levers 33, 34 with cranks 35, 36. The conveyer band 2 comprises supporting and running layers 41, 42, Fig. 14, both made of rubber which has been made oil- and water-resistant by boiling in an aqueous perborate solution, cotton fabric inserts 43 ... 46, armoured core edge protections 47 and wedgeshaped strips or beads 48 which run in grooves 49 in rollers 38, 39. It may also comprise coatings 55, 56, Fig. 15, of metal powder, or it may be smoothed by graphite or talcum. There are also provided a wetting roller 52, Fig. 11, and supporting rollers 40 and/or a sliding plate 54. The conveyer band assembly, together with tensioning means, may be constructed as a unit for introduction bodily into the machine. The feed hopper 50, Fig. 12, is fitted with oil- and heatresistant oblique rubber bands 51.
