Abstract

713,441. Grinding. CHANDLER PRODUCTS CORPORATION. April 17, 1951, No. 8940/51. Class 60 [Also in Group XXX] Workpieces 26 are fed from hopper 28 (Figs. 3, 4) one by one on to support 71 along open-topped track 42. As shown the headed workpieces are fed from hopper 28 by reciprocating section 29 the section being pivoted at 30 and reciprocated by blows delivered by roller 33 carried by driven crank 34, and the work pieces sliding (whilst supported by their heads) along slot 31 of the sector which introduces them into track 42 being guided thereinto by rockably supported eccentric 74. Said track 42 is adjustable in width, and adjustably mounted on supports 49, 50 provided with pin-and-slots 51, 55, and is provided with an adjustable top at 73. The workpieces 26 fall down the track and are controlled by control member 43 so as to fall one-by-one on to support 71, the control member 43 being tapped periodically by rocker 78 which is operated by pusher rod 80 so that one-by-one the workpieces are pushed by said rod 80 from support 71 on to work rest 27 where they are ground between grinding wheel 12 and regulating wheel 16. Rocker 78 is rocked by and in step with the regulating wheel 16, the driving connection being made by cam roller 88 fixed on the rocker and engaging with cam 87 fixed on the arbor of said wheel 16. The control member 43 (Fig. 5) is pivoted as shown and controlled by spring 70 so that its pins 68, 68a let pass one workpiece as the member pivots to and fro. The regulating wheel 16 (Fig. 6) is formed with a concentric part 16a, an eccentric part 16b and a flat part 16c, the eccentric part permitting the introduction of the unground workpiece on the work rest 27, the concentric part moving said workpiece to the left so as to be in grinding engagement with grinding wheel 12, and the flat part permitting the ground workpiece to be discharged by gravity from off the work rest 27. Diamond 102 (Figs. 7, 8) is adjustably held in dovetail ways by holding bar 100 adjustable longitudinally by screws 103 and handle 105 in sleeve 99 which sleeve is slidable in housing 95 under the influence of spring 111 so that cam follower 110, fixed to said sleeve and engaging, with the cam 108 fixed to rotate with said wheel 16, governs the position of the diamond 102 relative to the said wheel and prevents it grinding away the corners thereof. Handle 114 permits the instant retraction of the diamond and handle 115 permits its clamping in the retracted position.
