Abstract

713,398. Filing papers. ROSS, H. H. July 31, 1953 [Sept. 12, 1952], No. 23020/52. Class 146(1) In a card filing system in which record cards are stacked under compression, a card extractor member comprises means for visual identification thereof in the stack and means for frictional contact with a record card, the arrangement being such that the extractor member withdraws the record card with it when withdrawn from the compressed stack. The extractor member 10 comprises an index card 11 with an index tab 12 to receive an adhesive label 13. The card 11 is formed with a groove 14 cut away at each end 15 and a rubber band 16 lies within the groove 14.. As seen in Fig. 3, the extractor member 10 is grasped by the protruding tab- 12 for withdrawal from the stack of cards 18 and the card flexed so that the band 16 presses against the record card 17 to withdraw the card simultaneously. In a modification (not shown); the card 11 is replaced by a metal plate with upstanding tab, slotted so that a rubber band lies angularly between the slots, an adhesive strip securing the band on one side of the plate. In further modifications, a disc, ring or angular line of rubber or synthetic plastic or flock is secured to the member 10 by adhesive.
