Class 140 In a veneer press in which an upper cross beam 3 is pressed against a lower beam 1, on which the veneered sheets are laid, by tightening nuts 6 on threaded spindles 5, a number of springs. 13 are slidably. supported in a groove in the lower side of beam 3 so that an even pressure may be applied across sheets of different sizes. Each spring 13 is provided at each end with a disc 14, one of which is engaged in the groove in beam 3. The springs may be retained in adjusted position by providing further leaf springs slidable in the groove. To facilitate loading and removal, the spindles may be rotated as shown after releasing latches 9, and completely removed by withdrawing pins 7.
