Abstract

712,509. Beam shuttering. SETTLE. T. L. July 17. 1952 [Feb. 23. 1952]. No. 4819/52. Class 20 (2). [Also in Group V] Beam shuttering comprises a series of interlocking sections S, Fig. 14, each section being formed of two L-shaped brackets 1, 2, Fig. 1, with their bases 1B, 2B disposed in the same direction and adjustably secured together by means of a nut and bolt 5 engaging in slots 1G, 2G in the bases 1B, 2B. The outer face of the vertical part 1A of the bracket 1 is formed with four corner lugs IE, 1F and a bar 2C is located in the angle of the bracket 2 and has projecting ends 2F formed with slots adapted to be engaged by the lower lugs IF of the adjacent sections which are oppositely arranged as shown in Fig. 14. The upper lugs 1E are engaged by the upper ends 2E of angle struts 2D on the brackets 2 of adjacent sections. The base 2B of the bracket 2 has lipped sides which engage over the sides of the base 1B to prevent relative lateral displacement. Certain of the sections comprising brackets 3, 4, Figs. 2, 14, are specially adapted to provide support for the beam shuttering from a girder to be encased by concrete or, in the case of a reinforced concrete beam, from scaffolding. These support brackets 3, 4 are formed similarly to the brackets 1, 2 but are taller and are formed with two rows of staggered slots 3D, 4D centrally in each of the vertical parts 3A, 4A adapted to receive at selected positions cross bars 6 which pass through sleeves 7C formed on clips 7 secured to the flanges of the girder. Stops 8, Figs, 4, 14, are also secured on each bar 6 adjacent the outer faces of the vertical parts 3A, 4A and have projections 8C engaging the slots 3D, 4D to provide extra support. In addition screw threaded rods 9 are hooked over the bar 6 and each held thereon between a stop 8 and an outer stop 11, each rod 9 extending vertically through the slots in the bases of the brackets and having at its lower end a vertically adjustable washer 9C adapted to support a horizontal bar 10 extending between and underneath the support brackets and underneath the intervening ordinary brackets 1, 2. The bar 10 is retained in position by the bolt 5 and by a pin 9E on the washer 9C. Additional support may be provided by scaffolding located under the beam shuttering as shown in Fig. 14. In the case of a reinforced concrete beam without an encased girder, the girder clip is replaced by a clamp 16A, Fig. 11, secured to a horizontal scaffold tube, the clamp carrying by means of a screw bolts 16C and a screwthreaded part 16F, a sleeve 16K which receives the cross bar 6, the additional supporting means being as already described. A concrete curb may be cast with and on each side of the beam and is used as an edge for subsequently forming the floor slab. A clip 15, Fig. 8, is secured to the girder flange by means of the girder clip 7 and has a bent lip 15C which secures elongated inner curb plates 12 which are overlapped and joggled at this position and have notches in their lower edges which fit over the cross bar 6. Outer plates 12 forming a continuation of the beam shuttering are similarly notched and are spaced from the inner plates by bolts and' distance tubes. In the case of a reinforced concrete beam, the clips for securing the curb plates are modified to be secured direct to the cross bars.
