Abstract
712,161. Refrigerators. MOTOR PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Nov. 11, 1952 [March 31, 1952], No. 28451/52. Class 29 [Also in Group XXV] The pivots 49 of the evaporator compartment door 20 are fixed to the opposite sides of the liner 21 of the refrigerator and the door, which opens downwardly, is returned to its closed position by a torsion wire spring 55 coacting with the pivots. The door comprises inner and outer flanged panels 23, 22 of plastic secured together with insulating material between them and is reinforced by metal strips 34 at the sides which project downwardly at 35 and are apertured to take over the pivot pins 49 on plates 48 fixed to the sides of the inner liner 21 by screws 50. One of the panels has reinforcing ribs 33 and is formed to provide a recessed handle at the top. The ends of the pivots are slotted to anchor the reversely bent ends of the wire spring 55 which passes between the panels and is bent upwardly at 56 and secured to one of the panels at 59 so that it is twisted as the door is opened. Stops 53 on the strips 34 limit the downward movement of the door.
