Abstract

711,887. X-ray apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Aug. 20, 1952 [Aug. 23, 1951], No. 20905/52. Addition to 690,656. Class 98(1) A deep therapy X-ray apparatus comprises an X-ray tube which, when in use, is supported for continuous movement in combined linear and circular paths, and is pivotally mounted on the support whereby the X-ray beam may be continuously directed to a given area on the axis of revolution during these movements, the support for the X-ray tube comprising an arm which is eccentrically supported by a vertically disposed rotatable disc and is linearly movable parallel to the axis of the rotatable disc, the parallel movement of the arm and X-ray tube and the pivotal movement of the X-ray tube being effected by connecting rods to which are imparted differential movements. As shown, a rod 8 is mounted in a rotatable disc 12 for movement parallel to the axis of the disc, as described in the parent Specification. The rod 8 is moved by a rotatable screw-threaded rod 2, and the X-ray tube 3 is rocked in pivots on rod 8 by a rotatable screw-threaded rod 1 connected to a lever 5 which is linked to the X-ray tube. Rods 1 and 2 are driven by a motor 4, and move together but at different speeds, due either to different gearing to the motor or to different screw threads. 'The ratio of the speeds is such that the beamlimiting diaphragm 7 is always directed towards the same point on the axis of disc 12.
