711,632. Packaging. MIDDLETON, A. W. March 3, 1953 [Dec. 4, 1951], No. 28458/51. Class 94 (1) Corrosion of the interior surfaces of containers made of or lined with aluminium and filled with neutral or alkaline pastes or powders, such as soaps, synthetic detergents, shaving creams, tooth-pastes and paints, is prevented by incorporating in the paste or powder one or more insoluble metallic silicates which oan be decomposed by a strong acid. Examples of silicates which may be used are:-barium, cadmium, calcium, lead, magnesium, cobalt, zinc, iron, manganese, nickel and chromium. Preferably, the amount of silicate does not exceed 10 per cent. by weight of the paste or powder, the normal amount being .05-5 per cent. The silicate may be added to the paste or powder and mixed therewith or formed in situ by adding the required reactants and then mixing.
