Abstract

An animal food or food supplement, for cattle, pigs and poultry especially, contains a non-halogen sodium salt, e.g. sodium bicarbonate, disodium hydrogen phosphate or sodium lactate, tri- or di-calcium phosphate sufficiently fine to be assimilable, e.g. degreased bone flour, iodine-containing seaweed, and a sugar, e.g. cane, beet or cheese whey molasses which has been demineralized by removing, or otherwise rendering physiologically inactive, the chlorides therein. The seaweed provides copper, manganese, magnesium, boron, cobalt and molybdenum in addition to iodine. The endocrine gland stimulant apiol, e.g. as parsley, and the endocrine gland stimulant fragarine, e.g. as raspberry, blackberry or strawberry leaves, may be incorporated. The mixtures may be prepared in the form of pellets, cubes, crumbs or meal, and may be mixed with forage meals, e.g. grass or lucerne meal with or without wheat offals.
