Class 83 (4) A draw bench of the kind wherein the stock, e.g. metal bars or tubes, is drawn through a die by tongs or grippers on a carriage attached to an endless draw chain is characterized in that at least two draw carriages in addition to being connected to the draw chain, are supported on and guided by a track during the drawing movement. The drawing chain 3 passes over a drive wheel 1 rotated by an electric motor and two guide wheels 2. Two carriages 4 are each secured by means of two eyes 5 to the chain 3. Each carriage is guided by a roller 6 which during the drawing operation rolls on an upper track 7 and during its return stroke on a lower track 9. A die 10 is secured to a die holder 11. When the chain is in motion rearwardly projecting tongs 12 on the carriage swing with open jaws into the drawing axis and the jaws encompass the pointed end of the workpiece 13. The jaws are closed by means of a lever 14 and at the end of the drawing operation when the draw tension ceases the jaws open by spring operation or the like and the work is removed from the bench. The carriage swings around the chain wheel 1 downwards on to the track 9 and returns to the draw-in side of the bench whereupon the operation is repeated.
