Abstract

Silica is removed from hot water by passing the latter through a bed of mixed anion- and hydrogen-ion-exchange resins, and when the bed requires regeneration the anion-exchange resin is regenerated with a hot regenerating solution. The temperature of the regenerating solution is preferably at least 80 DEG C. and that of the water is preferably above 80 DEG C., for example 95 DEG C. The anion-exchange resin may be a cross-linked co-polymer of a mono-vinyl aromatic compound which has been halo-alkylated and aminated.
